Vice-Chair Introduction: Incia Haider
Hello everyone! My name is Incia and I will be serving as one of your Vice-Chairs for the United Nations Economic and Financial Affairs (ECOFIN) Committee for Berkeley Model UN's 69th session! This will be my third year participating in BMUN and my sixth year overall involved with Model United Nations. Last year, I also served as a Vice-Chair for ECOFIN, in which we discussed market diversification in oil-exporting countries and economic isolationism; the previous year, I served as Vice-Chair for the International Court of Justice committee! I am a third-year student majoring in Global Studies and Political Economy. Within the Global Studies major, my concentration is focused on peace and conflict in the Middle East and within the Political Economy major, I mainly study global inequality/development.
Aside from being involved with BMUN, I also research for the Human Rights Investigations Lab, which focuses on finding evidence through open-source media for human rights abuses. In addition, I try to write when I have more time and have enjoyed writing (although sparingly) for the Berkeley Political Review. In my free time, I love to read, watch Pakistani dramas, and exercise.
Although these past months have been nothing short of difficult, I am so inspired by our generation and the younger students of our generation (especially everyone in Model UN!) based on the activism, resilience, and motivation to continuously learn and fight for justice over oppression that so many have shown. You are amazing for taking the time to participate in a Model UN conference during times like these and I am so excited and eager to hear everyone's solutions to the difficult and incredibly important topics at hand in this committee! Good luck, keep fighting to make the world better, and go bears!
